OUR PROVIDER

Meet Shavonda

I’m Shavonda Johnson, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Crowned Psychiatry. I believe getting to know you matters just as much as understanding your symptoms. My goal is to create a space where you can speak honestly, ask questions, and feel respected as a whole person.

You may be the person everyone depends on while quietly feeling overwhelmed yourself. You do not need perfect words or a clear starting point to begin a conversation with me. I want to understand your story, what matters to you, and what you hope will feel different. Together, we’ll build a thoughtful path forward.

Shavonda Johnson, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, PHN, CEN

My background in Critical Care, Emergency Care, and Trauma informs how I understand the connection between physical health, mental wellness, and life experiences. I bring that whole-person perspective to care across the lifespan.

I want you to feel comfortable being yourself, including when things are difficult to explain. Our work begins with your story and grows through clear conversations, shared decisions, and respect for your goals.

I have a special interest in high-functioning depression and in breaking the barriers and stigma that can keep people from seeking support. You deserve care that sees beyond appearances and makes room for what you are carrying.

GET TO KNOW YOUR PROVIDER

Care begins with listening.

Compassionate, collaborative care makes room for your concerns, strengths, culture, relationships, and lived experiences. Clear explanations and an open invitation to ask questions help ensure that your preferences and goals belong in every care decision.

Treatment Approach

Care includes comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive, evidence-based approaches. Treatment draws on person-centered and strength-based principles, cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing. We discuss which approaches fit your needs and build a plan that is clinically appropriate and personal to you.

When faith is important to you, we can make room for it in our conversations. People of all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome, with respect for how you choose to make meaning in your life.

Special Interest

High-functioning depression is a special focus of my practice, particularly for people who appear to be keeping everything together while struggling inside. You may continue working, caring for others, or meeting expectations while feeling depleted, disconnected, or persistently low. Our conversations look beyond what you accomplish to how you actually feel.

“High-functioning depression” is a descriptive term rather than a formal diagnosis. An individualized evaluation helps us understand your experiences and identify appropriate support.

Breaking barriers and reducing stigma

Making conversations about mental health and wellness more approachable is central to my work. Cultural expectations, fear of judgment, and pressure to stay strong can make it difficult to ask for support. You deserve a space where seeking care is met with respect and compassion. Together, we can make room for your needs without shame.

Education & Experience

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Azusa Pacific University and a Master of Science in Nursing from California Baptist University, with a concentration in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner practice, form the foundation of my education. Experience in Critical Care, Emergency Care, and Trauma informs a whole-person understanding of physical health, mental wellness, and life experiences.
